How to Make Your Default Layouts in Genesis Interesting with Genesis Layout Extras?

An addition to the Genesis family of plugins, Genesis Layout Extras comes with the following features and benefits:

  • This is a lightweight plugin
  • Very easy to incorporate and work with
  • Enables you to transform the default design of your homepage, archives, search result page, attachments, author pages and 404 pages via varied theme options
  • It consists of the layout setting for bbPress 2.x Forum plugin, friendly with the Genesis framework

All you need to do is,

  • Under your Genesis framework sub-menu, there is a new theme options page added;

Genesis > “Layout Extras

Genesis Layout Extras can be installed in the following manner:

  1. Upload the folder ‘genesis-layout-extras’ to your WP plugins directory
  2. Go to ‘Plugins’ menu in your WP and ‘Activate’ this plugin
  3. Go to your ‘Genesis Theme Settings’ > ‘Layout Extras’ and select your default layouts
  4. For regular usage, remember to select different layout design from the default one for special sections

The various layouts available for your choice are:

  1. Genesis Default
  2. Content-Sidebar
  3. Sidebar-Content
  4. Content-Sidebar-Sidebar
  5. Sidebar-Sidebar-Content
  6. Sidebar-Content-Sidebar
  7. Full Width Content

Please note that Genesis Layout Extras works with WP versions 3.2, 3.3+ and 3.4 with no issues. It is known to work within a Multisite framework, whether it’s a single activation or activated for multiple users on a network. However, using this plugin with the latest version of WordPress and Genesis is strongly recommended.
