How to Create Your Favicon with a Transparent Backdrop

Now, since we all know what Favicon is, let’s go a little step further. For your Favicon to stand out optimally, you might want to go for a crystal-clear background instead of a colored one.

Follow these simple steps:

  • Ensure that the image you create or pick already has a transparent background. In other words, it should be in a .gif or .png format.
  • Install Favicon in WordPress with a slight difference in coding.
  • Replace the usual favicon.ico with favicon.gif or favicon.png.
  • In your header.php file, replace the line that starts with with:

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”<?php bloginfo(‘stylesheet_directory’); ?>/favicon.png” />
